Back-To-School Festival - Backpacks For a Bright Future - 2018

LGW and WHAO come together to donate school supplies at uplifting event in Newark, NJ

The Legion of Good Will (LGW) and the World Human Accountability Organization (WHAO) joined efforts to provide kids in need with tools to start this school year on the right foot.

On Wednesday, September 12, volunteers of both organizations came together at the space provided by LGW's long-time partner Sport Newark & Benfica to sort out and organize thousands of donated school supplies for kids in need. The team also prepared snacks for the Back-to-School Festival, hosted by the LGW that same evening at the YMCA Shelter of Newark. Designed to provide the community with uplifting activities, the event featured a face painting station, a variety of fun games, and a vibrant music set by a volunteer DJ.

Through the Backpacks for a Bright Future program, held every school year, the LGW aims to motivate at-risk kids to be outstanding students by providing school supplies that will inspire them to learn and achieve their dreams. This year, with the support of the WHAO, the LGW expects the program to serve over 150 underprivileged families in the Newark area. Parents of kids benefited by the program are thankful for the backpacks donation in the beginning of this new school year.

There is still time to help. The LGW still accepts monetary and in-kind donations for this school year as we plan to deliver more backpacks to schools in Newark. Visit our website to learn how to donate school supplies. Your support means a lot and can make a huge impact on a kid's life.
