The Declaration of the LBV will be presented to Member States of the United Nations

The United Nations’ Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) will be holding its High-Level Segment between July 18th and 22nd, 2016 in New York City (USA). The theme of this forum is “Implementing the post-2015 development agenda: moving from commitments to results.”

This will be the first ministerial meeting of the division since the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were unanimously adopted at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit in September 2015. It serves as one of the principal events of the UN that examines proposals to achieve the new sustainable development objectives, that have replaced the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The conference aims to seek solutions to address important global issues including education, poverty, and health. In coordination with the UN, the LBV will present recommendations, good practices, and the outcome of its own “Pedagogy of Affection and Ecumenical Citizen Pedagogy”, which has demonstrated that students in economically vulnerable situations can reach high levels of educational performance,, therefore demonstrating that an individual’s current social condition is not the sole determining factor of his or her future. The UN has embraced these recommendations and relayed them to all participating members of the conference in the organization’s six official languages.

These recommendations can also be viewed in the special edition of the magazine GOOD WILL Sustainable Development, 2016 (available in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and French). Featured is an article written by the President of the LBV, Jose de Paiva Netto, entitled “A Solidary Global Agenda,” in which he discusses the importance of Fraternity and the Ecumenical Spirituality in the whole development of individuals: “The LBV’s pioneering defense of the Global Citizenship aims to develop the full potential of human beings in all their dimensions, in other words, their spiritual, biological, psychological, and social dimension. Therefore, joining political citizenship with the Citizenship of the Spirit is ensuring the rise of Global, Global Citizenship, the foundation of which is Generosity and Solidarity, having spiritual values as support.”
