Vivica Michel

Age: 19 years old

Hometown: Bronx, NY

School: Stony Brook University

Major: Journalism

Why did you want to intern at the LGW?

I decided to intern at the Legion of Good Will because to me it presented a chance to be able to gain experience in my field of study, journalism. I saw working there as an opportunity to learn about internantional affairs since they are permanent residents at the United Nations. I found it as an opportunity to excercise what I already know as well as a place to learn new things.

What will you remember most of your internship at the LGW?

I'll remember two things: the people there as well as the visits to the UN. I loved going to the UN and getting to listen in to the conferences. Hearing how other nations were going to solve problems such as the oceans and food security was very educational. I think it's very important to be involved in such conversations. I will also remember the people at the LGW. Since the first day of work, everyone had been so nice and inviting. I never felt like a stranger and I always felt like I belonged there. That is definetely something I'll mis the most.

Why did you want to intern at the LGW?

Nonprofits interest me. To be given the opportunity to experience working in an environment like the LGW with people who want to positively impact communities that are in need of assistance is amazing to me.

What will you remember most of your internship at the LGW?

Definitely everyone who works at the LGW.  They guided me throughout my internship and helped me discover things I never thought I could do.

Interns at the LGW gain exposure to a variety of aspects of international Nonprofit administration including: fundraising, public relations, marketing, etc. Additionally, due to the LGW’s consultative status with the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), interns may also acquire field experience representing the organization in intergovernmental processes and high-level conferences at the UN throughout the year.
