The Legion of Good Will (LGW) has just launched its annual campaign to collect school materials called "Backpacks for a Bright Future", which aims to distribute 200 backpacks filled with school supplies for children at-risk who will begin another school year in September. Students benefiting from this action are residents of homeless shelters, as well as students from low-income families who attend public schools in the Newark area of New Jersey.

We can’t wait to see the smile on the kids’ faces when they receive the gift you'll help us put together this year.

The organization invites the community to be part of this initiative by donating school supplies such as pencils, notebooks, crayons, rulers, pencil sharpeners, folders, children's scissors, color pencils, and backpacks. "This great service definitely increases the students’ self-esteem and they are more prepared and excited to begin classes. Sometimes [not having school supplies] affects the motivation to start the school year,” says Carmen Cabrera, Social Worker of the schools benefiting from the campaign.

We are looking for generous donors who will embrace this cause and help us see the smile of more kids' faces when they receive the gift you help put together this year.

The LGW is gathering in-kind and monetary donations until September 4th, 2017 before the beginning of the school year. The success of this campaign depends on the goodwill of those who believe in education as an antidote to overcome various social obstacles. "Every year, we have been able to impact the lives of hundreds of underprivileged children in New Jersey and New York. They found support and motivation to complete their studies, because they were given the opportunity to start their school year in equal conditions as their classmates," says Danilo Parmegiani, LGW representative in the US.

"As a mother, I see this as a great help for my family. I have three children and really want them to be prepared to learn. Now they have all the necessary materials for it," says Angela Martinez, mother of three children aged 2, 9 and 10 years old.
